Compare · HTTP Toolkit
A native Mac alternative to HTTP Toolkit.
HTTP Toolkit is open source, runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and has a free tier and a Pro subscription. Cloak Proxy is a native Mac app, not open source, with every feature free, including the kinds HTTP Toolkit keeps for Pro. Here's how they compare, with a source for each fact about HTTP Toolkit, and when it's the better choice.

Being fair
When to pick which.
Pick HTTP Toolkit if…
You want open source
HTTP Toolkit's free edition is open source under AGPL-3.0. Cloak Proxy isn't open source.
You need Windows, or a stable Linux release
HTTP Toolkit ships a Windows installer and DEB, RPM, Arch and AppImage packages for Linux. Cloak Proxy is on the Mac, with a Linux beta as a .deb, an RPM, an AppImage or a tarball, and no Arch package yet.
You debug Android on the device
HTTP Toolkit has an Android app. Cloak Proxy sets up Android emulators and USB devices over adb, through your Mac.
Pick Cloak Proxy if…
You want Pro's kind of features without a subscription
Map Local, Rewrite, failure scenarios (time-outs, resets, slow bodies), HAR import and export and saved collections, all free.
Your agent should change things, not just read
HTTP Toolkit's free MCP access is read-only and capped per session; read-write is Pro. Cloak Proxy's MCP server has 133 tools, free, to read traffic and add mocks, rules and failures.
You want a native Mac app
Cloak Proxy is written in Swift, with a command palette (⇧⌘A), light and dark mode, and an API client in the same window.
You test APIs from the traffic you have
An authorization matrix that replays requests as other users, Trace Value, an LLM Inspector for model calls, and tests made from captured traffic.

Cloak Proxy or HTTP Toolkit?
Something else? Email hello@subcloak.com or book a call.
Is Cloak Proxy free like HTTP Toolkit's free tier?
Cloak Proxy has no tiers: every feature is free for life, with no account. HTTP Toolkit's free tier covers capture, inspection, breakpoints and sending requests; mocking, HAR import and export and OpenAPI validation are in Pro.
Is Cloak Proxy open source like HTTP Toolkit?
No. HTTP Toolkit is AGPL-3.0, and mitmproxy is MIT. Cloak Proxy's in-app SDK, CloakProxyKit, is MIT-licensed, but the app isn't open source.
Can I move my HTTP Toolkit traffic over?
Export it as a HAR file (a Pro feature in HTTP Toolkit) and open it in Cloak Proxy with File › Open Session. See Import in the docs.
Does Cloak Proxy run on Windows?
Not yet. Cloak Proxy runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon or Intel, and on Linux as a beta (a .deb, an RPM, an AppImage or a tarball). Windows is on the way: join the waitlist and we'll email you once when it's ready.
